I'm typically not really a fan of Metroidvanias, but Hollow Knight is an exceptional game that, I think, really is the best the genre has to offer.Īs for Darkest Dungeon, I really like the aesthetic of the game, but the actual gameplay and grind brings down the whole experience for me. UI has some minor issues that could use polishing (the use of percentages in the text tooltips is particularly wonky) but for an early access game it very good. And if you win you can keep playing, but you don't get any more stuff for the overgame. Either you build up enough and stabilize and then you win, or things spiral out of control and you lose. And the expeditions last almost the exact right amount of time. Your people are divided between humans, lizard people and beaver people, with each having their specialties and desires. ![]() There's no combat, threats are dealt with by throwing workers and resources at them. Some threats are as simple as some dead bodies that make your people sad until you bury them and sometimes it's a giant mole that causes earthquakes. ![]() It's a roguelite city builder which is like chocolate and peanut butter to me.Įach expedition has you chopping through the forest to open glade that have stuff in them every one has some resource that you may or may not be able to use, and some have threats. Picked up Against the Storm, which is in Early Access on Epic, after watching KatherineofSky play it.
